Olive Oil & Edible Oil Glass Bottles

Custom glass olive oil bottles in 250, 500 and 750 ml: dark green, amber or clear, with cork, screw or pourer closures. Tooling in 25–35 days.

Olive oil bottles are almost always a custom mould rather than a stock item, because brands differentiate on shape. We tool square, round and tapered bottles in 250 ml, 500 ml and 750 ml in dark green, antique green, amber or clear glass, with cork, screw-cap or pourer closures. Tooling takes 15–20 days, first production 25–35 days.

Why is dark green the standard colour for olive oil?

Dark green glass blocks the blue and ultraviolet wavelengths that accelerate photo-oxidation of the chlorophyll and polyphenols in extra virgin olive oil. Antique green is the traditional choice in Mediterranean markets; darker green gives more protection but hides the oil colour, which some premium brands want visible. Clear bottles are used where shelf life is short and the oil colour is part of the sell.

Do I need a custom mould, or are there stock olive oil bottles?

Both exist. Standard 250 ml and 500 ml square bottles are available from stock moulds at 1,000 pcs, which is the fast and cheap route for a first order. Beyond that, most olive oil brands move to a custom shape because the bottle is the main brand differentiator on shelf. We quote both options side by side so you can see the cost of designing your own shape.

Which closure is best — cork, screw cap or pourer?

Cork suits premium and gift lines and gives the traditional look, but needs a corking machine and does not reseal as tightly after opening. A screw cap with an aluminium shell is the most common for retail because it reseals and needs no special equipment. A pourer insert controls flow and prevents dribbling, and is usually combined with a screw cap rather than used alone.

How do I prevent oil leaking around the closure?

The critical part is the neck finish — the thread pitch and the sealing land below it must match the cap liner precisely. A cap with an inadequate liner will weep oil regardless of how tight it is applied. For screw caps we specify a food-grade expanded-PE liner, and for cork we control the cork diameter to the neck bore within 0.3 mm. Both are checked on the first production batch.

What documentation is needed to export bottled oil to the EU?

The glass itself needs a food-contact declaration and, for the EU, migration testing against the relevant regulation. We supply FDA and LFGB reports plus SGS migration test results per batch, along with MSDS for any coating or ink used on the bottle. Your importer remains responsible for the product declaration, but the packaging documentation comes from us.

Frequently asked questions

What is the MOQ for olive oil bottles?

1,000 pcs for stock 250 ml and 500 ml square bottles. A custom mould requires 3,000 pcs minimum because the tooling has to be amortised.

How long does a custom olive oil bottle take?

15–20 days for the mould, then 25–35 days for the first production run including decoration. Sampling happens after tooling, so plan roughly 6–8 weeks from drawing approval to shipped goods.

Can you supply the caps and pourers with the bottles?

Yes — aluminium screw caps, plastic caps, cork stoppers and pourer inserts, quoted as a set so you have one landed cost per filled unit.

Do you make swing-top bottles for oil and vinegar?

Yes, in 250 ml and 500 ml, with a wire bail and food-grade rubber gasket. These are usually combined with a pourer insert for oil and vinegar sets.

Can the bottle be embossed with our brand name?

Yes. Embossing is cut into the mould and costs nothing per unit after tooling, which is why most olive oil brands emboss rather than label. It needs a 1.5 mm minimum relief depth to read clearly.

Where do you ship olive oil bottles from?

FOB Lianyungang, about 200 km from our Xuzhou factory, with direct sailings to Mediterranean, African and Middle East ports. CIF quotes are available on request.

Need a bottle that is not listed?

Send a drawing, a physical sample, or just the capacity and neck size. We reply with a quotation and a sampling plan within 24 hours.
